Beatrix Potter Ginger and Pickles Early Edition circa 1910

The First Edition is selling this collectable early edition of the Beatrix Potter classic book, Ginger and Pickles. This is a large format book measuring approximately 14.00cm x 18.00cm with a superb large illustration pasted to the front board as issued of Peter Rabbit entering the shop Ginger and Pickles.

In order to determine the year and age of Beatrix Potter books we use the authoritative book by Leslie Linder: A History of the Writings of Beatrix Potter.

In her book, Linder states that the first edition book’s boards should be either pale olive green or buff; and Linder advises that the year 1909 should appear to the front of the Title Page; and in 1930 the title was changed to ‘The Tale of Ginger and Pickles’.

The boards are buff in colour, but does not have the date 1909 printed to the front of the Title Page (but does have the date to the Copyright Page), and retains its original title Ginger & Pickles - therefore is presumed to be an early printing as per the first edition.

The front and back boards are in Very Good condition with rubbing; and with loss to the top of the spine and slight lifting.

There are 51 numbered pages which are in overall Very Good condition being very clean, with the exception to pages 36 and 37 with marks (lighter to the text page); and the pages are a little shaken due to the defects to the spine.

This is a lovely collectable example of this hard to find early large format Beatrix Potter book
