Beatrix Potter Book: The Pie and the Patty-Pan First Edition Early Printing c.1905/1906

The First Edition has for sale the Beatrix Potter book, The Pie and the Patty-Pan, which is the first edition early printing book dating from 1905/06 in stunning and highly collectable and desirable condition.

Leslie Linder in her book The Writings of Beatrix Potter states:

“In paper boards, brown, blue-grey or maroon…The year 1905 appears on the front of the title page of the first printing.  The early printings have plain mottled lavender end-papers, which were shortly replaced by an end-paper design featuring a pie and a patty-pan.  The cover picture was then changed from a cat in a small circle, to one of Ribby sitting by the fire, in a large circle.”

The edition of The Pie and the Patty Pan that we are selling is the large format with maroon coloured boards, with the pie and the patty-pan endpaper design, and featuring the colour label of Ribby sitting by the fire.

The boards are in Very Good condition being complete with wear to the spine, with the joint between the back board and spine worn to the boards; and rubbing and marks to the front and back boards; with the round colour label to the front board being in exceptionally nice condition.

There are 51 numbered pages, with colour frontispiece and colour plates throughout with smaller line drawings in the text which are in overall Very Good condition with wear to the internal hinges, which is usual for books of this period.
