Q Are your descriptions accurate?

A Yes. We are proud of the first and early edition books that we supply to collectors and dealers around the world. We also appreciate that these collectable books are old and may have defects. We take great care to ensure that we offer accurate descriptions and photographs for each book sold. We guarantee that all the books that we sell are as described, and actively encourage our Clients to ask questions before making a purchase. We will be only too pleased to answer any questions

Q Does The First Edition offer images?

A Yes, we offer images on each book that we sell. In fact, we take pride in offering possibly the greatest number of images (on average) per book. The thumbnail images on The First Edition web site are enlargeable to clear & large images that show many aspects of the book being offered, and are part of the whole description of the book. If you wish any further images to those of offer please do not hesitate to contact us. We are always very pleased to assist wherever possible

Q In which currency does The First Edition (TFE) price its books?

Q I am looking for value for money. Can you demonstrate how I will get this with The First Edition (TFE)?

A The First Edition (TFE) buys quality books whilst at the same time keeping a close eye on the market to ensure that we are competitive for the quality and type of books that we are offering. We have recently launched the new ‘Single Non-Geographic Pricing’ (SNGP) which basically means that no matter where in the world you are you pay the same total price for the books purchased. There are no hidden charges. We believe that The First Edition (TFE) are the first book dealers to offer this service.

Q How are The First Edition (TFE) able to offer SNGP?

A For many years The First Edition (TFE) have absorbed and subsidised part of the cost of postage and packing (p&p) charges to offer our Clients the best possible service. We are continuing with this and going still further to offer non-discriminatory pricing whilst also offering some of the most price-competitive ‘total’ prices on the market for the quality of books being offered

Q Which forms of on-line payment does The First Edition (TFE) accept?

A Uniquely, The First Edition (TFE), together with its sister web site: CollectingCollectables.com, provides its Clients with a choice of 2 of the leading on-line shopping carts - Google Checkout™ and PayPal™ depending upon which accounts you have and which you are most comfortable with

Q Can I pay by cheque?

A Yes. If you are in the UK, and pay by UK bank cheque in Great British Pounds(GBP) sterling, and drawn against a London bank then this will be fine. We will hold any books on reserve for a maximum of 3 business days and wait for the ‘cleared date’ (which can be 9 business days from the date of submission) before despatching your order

Packaging

Q I am concerned about receiving my order in the condition it was described. How does The First Edition (TFE) pack orders?

A Whether you are from the UK or overseas we pack in the same way. We use the highest standard of materials to ensure that your order is received in the same condition as it was sold. All books are placed in film-fronted archive bags which are sealed, then carefully bubble wrapped and then placed in either a purpose bought-out box or bag dependent upon the value and size of the order and then taped up using clear and FRAGILE tape. All address labels are typed

Despatch of Your Order

Q I am looking to get delivery of my order as soon as possible. How quickly can I expect The First Edition (TFE) to despatch my order?

A We at The First Edition (TFE) appreciate that our Clients wish to receive their orders as quickly as possible (even though we must work to the courier’s terms and conditions and are unable to guarantee delivery) we look to have your order turned around and despatched very quickly - on the same day or next business day from receipt of cleared payment. Note: What we regard as ‘cleared payment’ is payment (albeit on-line or cheque payment) that has cleared into our account and where there is no outstanding queries. We will also attempt to despatch on Saturdays wherever possible

Shipping Methods

Q I am looking to have my book delivered as quickly and safely as possible, how will The First Edition (TFE) ship my order?

A The First Edition (TFE) uses the UK’s Post Office (Royal Mail) as its preferred courier which we have experience of being reliable. And, we always use a trackback service. For UK inland deliveries we use the Royal Mail’s Recorded ‘Signed For’ service for orders valued upto £35.00; for inland orders in excess of £35.00 we use Royal Mail Special Delivery which is delivery next working day by 1pm (there is an additional charge to receive a delivery guaranteed for Saturday).

For international orders we use the Royal Mail Recorded ‘International Signed For’ service.

Q Does The First Edition (TFE) use any other form of courier?

A Yes. If you have a more valuable order, or wish to have the order delivered quicker then we would recommend that you use an express service such as DHL or Federal Express (FedEx). If you have an account with these courier companies then simply give us their account number and we will arrange for the order to be collected by them at no additional charge by us.

Q Are you able to provide a valuation of my book by email or over the telephone?

A No, regrettably this is not possible since a proper valuation requires the book to be in front of us so that we may identify such things as issue and condition. However, we will be pleased to provide you with advice and guidance wherever possible

Selling to The First Edition

Q I have a collectable book, would The First Edition (TFE) be interested in purchasing it?

A We would certainly be interested in speaking with you about it. If you have a book that is similar to the type of books that we sell, and it meets our quality requirements then yes we would like to speak with you

Q What is the procedure to sell to The First Edition (TFE)?

A The procedure is relatively straightforward. All purchases are subject to inspection by The First Edition (TFE). Before we can agree to purchase your book we will need to have it in front of us to view and confirm such things as issue and condition. Once satisfied we will then issue payment via the agreed method. Should the book not meet the description given during the initial communication prior to the book being received then we will need to return the book back to you at your cost - receiving payment for postage and packing prior to despatch by us.
