Huntley and Palmers Biscuit Tin Tropical 1891
Huntley and Palmers Tropical early novelty biscuit tin is for sale. The Huntley and Palmers biscuit tin Tropical was produced for just one year in 1891 and is a very early Huntley and Palmers biscuit tin.
The Tropical biscuit tin is a lozenge shaped biscuit tin with slightly embossed illustrations featuring monkeys on the sides and on the hinged lid. The base of the Huntley and Palmers biscuit tin reads:
“Huntley & Palmers Biscuit Manufacturer Reading & London”
There is discolouration to the base, but the lettering is still readable. There is a hinged lid which still opens and closes firmly.
This Huntley and Palmers Tropical novelty biscuit tin has six embossed panels with transfer printed designs, each with a different illustration showing a young girl about to post a letter in an early Victorian post box, with a young boy propping himself against the back of the post box and a monkey sitting on top of the said post box. Other images include the monkey playing with a cat, dog and parrot.
There is extensive rubbing to bare metal (patches) but the designs are still visible. Internally the box is still bright and clean.
The tin measures 6.00 inches in height (approx) and 5.50 inches in width and approx 3.50 inches in depth. A very rare vintage Huntley and Palmers biscuit tin.
