Charles Dickens Dealings With The Firm of Dombey and Son is for sale. This edition was published by Chapman and Hall, and has the issue points of the first edition with Captain Cuttle’s hook on his left arm, and other issue points; and there are 40 illustrations by Phiz. However, the title page is not dated. It is believed that this book was issued in around 1870 (or possibly later) as a tribute to the author who died in this year. The paper does not accord with a book of the first edition of 1848.
The binding has marbled boards to the front and back of the book with leather corners and leather spine with gilt decoration to the spine, and a green label to the spine with the title in gilt. The binding is in Very Good condition with wear to the edges and corners, and to the top and bottom of the spine.
There are 624 numbered pages with all edges marbled to match the binding, and with marbled front and rear endpapers. The pages are in overall Very Good condition being very clean, with only very occasional and light spotting.
Dombey and Son is an incredibly attractive Charles Dickens book.
