This 1940 film book measures 8¼ x 10½ inches (approximately) and was published by The Amalgamated Press.
The front board has a wonderful photograph of Shirley Temple dressing a snowman; the back board has an advertisement for Allenbury’s Pastilles. The binding has its original brown cloth spine. The binding is in Very Good condition being complete but there is wear to the front board, back board and the spine. But, the front board is still very attractive.
There are 157 numbered pages in this fantastic film book packed with photographs and features on the film stars of 1940. From the Contents Page one ca\n see that the photographs (ie “Full Page Portraits”) reads like a who’s ho of 1940 Hollywood acting royalty including “Barbara Stanwcyk and Henry Fonda”, “Gary Cooper”, “James Stewart”, “Bette Davis”, “Fred MacMurray”, “Cary Grant”, “Myrna Loy”, “Nelson Eddy”, “Hedy Lamarr”, “Clark Gable”, “Judy Garland”, Deanna Durbin”, and so many more.
The films featured in this magnificent vintage film book are “Gunga Din” starring Douglas Fairbanks and Cary Grant; “The Sisters” starring Bette Davis and Anita Louis; “Goodbye Mr Chips” starring Robert Donat; “Made For Each Other” starring James Stewart and Carole Lombard; “Stagecoach” starring John Wayne in his breakthrough role; “Angels With Dirty Faces” the James Cagney classic; and many more. These great features have black and white photographs from the film classics.
“Stars’ Careers In Pictures” has great features Norma Shearer, Shirley Temple, Ronald Colman, Loretta Young, Robert Taylor, Douglas Fairbanks Jr, Joan Crawford, Adolphe Menjou, and Ginger Rogers.
The pages are in overall Very Good condition with cracks to the internal hinges, with the pages still firmly bound-in; age toning; and a crease to the blank rear endpaper.
This is a truly magnificent and scarce film book that will grace any vintage film memorabilia collection.
