Lewis Carroll Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland Illustrated by Arthur Rackham first edition 1907 is for sale. This wonderful and one of the most collectable of the Arthur Rackham books with Peter Pan In Kensington Gardens was published by William Heinemann and measures 6¼ x 8¼ inches (approximately).

The original green binding has a wonderful Arthur Rackham illustration in gilt to the front board, with black lettering and the face of the Cheshire Cat in black. The binding is in Very Good condition with wear to the front board, corner knocks, knocks to the top and bottom of the spine, marks to the back board, and slight fading to the top edge of the front board. Despite the imperfections to the binding for this 100+ years old book, this still remains a very attractive and collectable example of this Arthur Rackham first edition Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland book.

There are 161 numbered pages, top edge tinted olivine in colour, as required of a first edition, with decorated endpapers with the date incorporated into the design as required. There are 13 colour plates present each with their own captioned tissue guards, and correct as per the list of plates to the front of the book; and an additional 14 drawings in black and white.

The pages are in overall Very Good + condition with brown tape to the top of the front free endpaper, underneath this are the words “Xmas 1922”; the initials “MBR” neatly written to the top of the Half Title Page; a small nick to the plate on page 84 (top side edge of plate) with all other colour plates in Fine condition.

This is a very scarce and collectable Arthur Rackham Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland first edition book with just the most magnificent Alice In Wonderland illustrations one is likely to see.
