Marlborough’s Duchess A Study In Worldliness by Louis Kronenberger, U.S. first edition published by Alfred A. Knopf in New York in 1958, measuring 6.00 x 8.75 inches (approximately) is for sale. This is a detailed look at Sir Winston Churchill’s ancestors. The front flap of the dust jacket reads (in part):
“Brought up a great beauty at Charles II’s court, Sarah Jennings early met and married John Churchill, who, as the first Duke of Marlborough, became the greatest soldier of his age.”
The original dust jacket is in Good condition being mostly complete with tears, creases and minor losses.
The original blue binding with embossed front board, gilt letting to the spine is in Very Good + condition with slight knocks to the top and bottom of the spine. This is a very attractive binding.
There are 314 numbered pages, top edges tinted pink, with additional nine-page index, one-page “A Note On the Author’, a one-page “A Note On The Type”, all to the end of the book. The pages contain black and white plates throughout and are in overall Very Good + condition being extremely clean and tightly bound-in with a neat inscription to the blank front free endpaper.
This is a very interesting and informative book on Sir Winston Churchill’s ancestors.
