Phiz and Dickens deluxe signed first edition book is for sale. Phiz is probably one of the best known of Charles Dickens illustrators. Phiz and Dickens was written by Edgar Browne, who was the son of Hablot Knight Browne (Phiz). Phiz and Dickens published in 1913 by James Nisbet & Co. Ltd, this detailed book contains a great Charles Dickens facsimile letter.
This Phiz and Dickens book is signed by Edgar Browne and numbered 124 of just 175 signed copies worldwide.
This large book measuring 12.00 inches by 9.50 inches (approximate) with original gilt decorated vellum bevelled boards is complete with 39 large plate illustrations by Hablot Knight Browne in black and white and sepia tone. All the Hablot Knight Browne plates are accompanied with their tissue guards.
The large original gilt decorated vellum binding has gilt lettering to the front board with gilt initials on a green background to the corners of the border. The vellum binding is in Very Good condition being complete but with marks, discolouration to the spine, corner knocks and edge wear. Despite the faults, this is an attractive binding.
There are 320 numbered pages, top edge gilt and remaining untrimmed, complete with the 39 plates and tissue guards, with the pages being very clean internally and in overall Very Good + condition.
