The front board has a large Randolph Caldecott illustration of frogs on a desert island looking up at a stork with a crown on its head.
The back board has an illustration of a bird perched upon a branch of a tree holding the Macmillan logo in its beak. The spine has the title ‘Some of Aesop’s Fables R. Caldecott’.
The Randolph Caldecott Some of Aesop’s Fables original brown decorated binding is in Very Good and attractive condition with marks to the front board, lighter marks to the back board, and knocks to the top and bottom of the spine. However, this binding feels very smooth and fresh for a book that is over 130 years of age.

The Aesop’s Fables are from (then) new translations by Alfred Caldecott with illustrations by Randolph Caldecott. The stunning engravings throughout this Aesop’s Fables book are by J.D. Cooper. Please note that Alfred Caldecott (1850-1936) is the brother of Randolph Caldecott (1846-1886).

The Randolph Caldecott Some of Aesop’s Fables pages are in overall Very Good condition with a small retailer’s label to the plain front pastedown, a light inscription in pencil to the Title Page, and light foxing to the front endpapers, the rear endpapers and to the Half Title Page. The pages are overall very clean and tightly bound in.
