The Picture Show Annual 1929
The Picture Show Annual 1929 is for sale. This is a very early and collectable film book featuring stars of the day such as Douglas Fairbanks, Gary Cooper, Tom Mix, Betty Balfour, Marion Davies, Ronald Coleman, and many more.
The Picture Show Annual measures 8¾ x 11 inches (approximately) and was published by Amalgamated Press Ltd. The front board bears an illustration of Betty Balfour and the back board bears an advertisement for Picture Show magazine.
The binding is in overall Very Good condition with edge wear; wear to the original green cloth spine and wear with small surface loss to the back board.
There are 160 numbered pages that are packed with colour, black and white and sepia toned illustration. The frontispiece opposite the title page has a large colour illustration of Victor McLaglen and Dolores del Rio in “Loves of Carnen”; with the title page having a large black and white photograph of Janet Gaynor and Richard Walling in “The Midnight Kiss”.
The other colour photographs include Douglas Fairbanks and Lupe Velez in “The Gaucho”; and Ramon Novarro and Marceline Day in “Romance”.
The black and white photographs include Pola Negri, Marion Davies, Ronald Colman, Betty Balfour, Norma Shearer, John Barrymore, The Talmadge Sisters, Tom Mix and his horse Tony, Evelyn Brent and a very young looking Gary Cooper in a scene from “Beau Sabreur”, and many other great vintage photographs of stars from their vintage silent films.
The pages are in overall Very Good with the internal hinge between the frontispiece and title page broken, but the pages are still very firmly bound in but gives the appearance that the book is slightly shaken.
This is a wonderful and very collectable film book packed with great vintage photographs of the very earliest days of Hollywood!
